CGI is designed to meet the specific needs of Latin-American and
African-American girls, age 12-14.
Peer Designed
Toward the goal of empowerment and to ensure each participant's
needs are
met, all CGI's participants are actively involved in planning and
implementing their workshops and enrichment trips within the mentoring
program. Additionally, the CGI program features a natural relationship
component which allows the girls to work with mentors and moderators
across
diverse backgrounds and fields such as business, medicine and education,
to which they are most drawn.
Community Outreach
Toward developing and refining leadership skills,
participants spear-head a community outreach project. The girls
decide, plan
and coordinate their community outreach project.
Peer Led
As participants grow, reaching the age of 15, they take
on roles of junior mentors, assisting in program development and
mentoring their
younger "sisters" starting in the program.
