This year’s work will be about understanding our belief systems, prejudices, personal power, intentions, and motives. We will have speakers and workshops that challenge the girls’ beliefs about success, failure, commitment, and achievement.

Cinnamongirl Kick-off Meeting

Saturday, September 11th
1:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

  • This meeting is to officially kick off Cinnamongirl’s 7th year of mentoring highly motivated teenage girls. This is the opportunity for everyone to become acquainted, meet our Founder and Board of Directors, review plans for the 2010- 2011 program year, and address questions.

Mentor Training

Saturday, September 18th

  • A meeting for current and new mentors to become acquainted, discuss roles and responsibilities, and learn tips for building positive relationships with the girls.

Cinnamongirl Holistic Investment Club (CHIC)

Wednesday, September 25th
3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

  • Cinnamongirls learn the concepts and tools for effective management of their personal finances; for example, differentiation between wants vs needs, basic types of savings and investment accounts, establishment of credit scores, investment risk vs return, investing in the stock market, etc. Moreover, the girls will work together to research and make decisions for the Cinnamongirl investment fund.

Cinnamongirl Empowerment Dialogue: Examining Our Beliefs, Behaviors, and Motives

  • This is the first of three sessions this year that will present material, activities, and open discussion focused on our program theme. Cinnamongirls and mentors will spend the day building their relationships and having fun while learning.

College Preparedness Workshop: Separating Me from the Masses, What Can I Do?

Saturday, November 6th
1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

  • Administrators from the University of California, California State, and private university systems discuss the preparation necessary to effectively compete in the college admissions process. A breakout session will be held for older Cinnamongirls (high school juniors and seniors) to outline specific steps they can take immediately in the admissions process.

Cinnamongirl Fundraising Project: Letter Writing Campaign

Saturday, November 20th
1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

  • Cinnamongirls and mentors are presented with a fundraising project (i.e., letter writing, internet marketing, or holiday product or gift card sale, etc.), where they will work together to help raise funds to support the Cinnamongirl program. This will also give the girls the opportunity to build leadership, project management, and teamwork skills.

Boys Dialogue: Relationships, Dating, and Love

Saturday, February 26th

  • Our annual meeting for Cinnamongirls between 14 and 17 years old. The girls will have the opportunity to have a open and honest discussion with young men , currently in college, that can provide a man’s perspective on love, dating, and relationships. The girls learn how young men think, what motivates their behavior, how to set healthy boundaries, and ensure respectful and positive relationships. A female physician will also be on hand to address the girls’ questions and provide accurate information on womens’ health.

Girls Dialogue: My Life as a Teen

  • Our first meeting for Cinnamongirls between the ages of 10 and 13 years old. This girls will have the opportunity to have a discussion with the mentors and young women in college. Topics to be covered include physical and emotion changes for pre-teens, talking to parents, transitioning to middle school, positive friendships, bullying, and effective use of social networking and texting.

  • A special annual event for everyone in the Cinnamongirl family (Cinnamongirls, Parents, Mentors, Board Members, Office Staff, and Volunteers), as well as, our friends and family. It’s a relaxing and beautiful afternoon of great food, music, and an inspiring program featuring the Cinnamongirls. Past events have included special honorees, guest speakers, spoken word artists, etc. Men in the Cinnamongirl family are also welcome to attend! More details to be announced in early 2011

  • The mentors and young women in college have a discussion with the girls about their experiences transitioning from high school to college. Topics to be covered include managing college level courses, working part time jobs, living away from home, time management, juggling social activities, identifying support services, etc.

Special recognition is also given to the girls graduating from high school and out of the Cinnamongirl program.
